History
Sunshine and Health magazine published (1933-1963) was published by Ilsley Boone. Boone started the magazine under name The Nudist. It later became the official magazine of the American Sunbathing Association, the predecessor to the American Association for Nude Recreation. Despite having genitals in photos airbrushed out, the magazine was considered obscene by the U.S. Postmaster General.
In 1994 the magazine invited African American nudist E.J. Samuels to pen a series or articles on experiences of black nudism. 1 Free and Natural: Nudity and the American Cult of the Body
