Nudist youth camps
Linda Shockley (1948-) is described by some as the original teen nudist. At sixteen Shockley was literally the brainchild behind hosting regional nudist youth camps. She got the idea from reading information about similar youth camps hosted by the International Naturist Federation. Shockley was a member at Oakleaf Ranch in California when she sent a letter with the idea to the Western Sunbathing Association. The association enthusiastically adopted her idea. 1A History of Naturist Youth Camps in America by Paul LeValley
As a result of Shockley’s suggestion and the support of Alice Apgar the Junior Western Sunbathing Association (JWSA) was born in the summer 1964. The JWSA was run as a non-landed travel club. With the support of her parents, Shockley traveled from club to club attracting other youth to participate in various activities. The activities included camping trips, dances and ice-cream socials, bowling, roller-skating, and cleanup projects. She also helped organize annual events at different nudist venues. 2Web Archive Nudist Clubhouse – Linda Shockley
