Joyce Long along with her husband Gerry and son were regular visitors to West Coast nudist clubs. The family saw nudism as a tranquil respite from everyday live with the benefit of being able to relax clothes free in the sun and grass. They were members of the Sanrobles non-landed club and regular visitors to Oakleaf Ranch. The family travelled to the ASA national convention in 1963 where Joyce participated in the royalty pageant.
It was at the nudist camps that she caught the eye of the nudist photographers of the day. She was featured in nudist magazine pictorials up to the 1960s. As magazine photographers shifted to using professional nude model Long and family faded from visibility. However, one of her photos lounging by a pool on a chaise, became the basis for The Rolling Stones 1975 Made in the Shade album cover.
