What’s the difference between naturism and nudism?
This is an age old question. When Europeans introduced the practice of gymnosophy to the United States they used the term naturism. This included a philosophy of healthy living, eating and exercise. When Americans adopted the practice they choose to make the health nutrition and exercise aspect of naturism optional calling it nude recreation and using the term nudism.
Nudism has a negative connotation in some parts of the world, naturism is used instead. In most cases naturism and nudism are the same thing. For others there is a distinct difference between those two terms. At one time the terms used to mean the same thing and were used synonymously.
Nudism has come to mean just getting naked, while naturism links to way of life philosophy and ethic of respect for the natural world and others while remaining in the most natural state of being that is clothes free. 1Recreational Naturism versus Ethical Naturism
