Most films with nudity in that era were only viewed in closed screenings. Kinz’s filled depreciated naturist in their element. Most of the naked people featured in his films were women. Naturist Film making and censorship
Kunz was granted a permit for the film “Nous irons t l’ile du Levant” (We Will Go to the Isle of Levant) in April 1960. The Isle of Levant is a naturist community in France. The showing of the film was limited to those over eighteen. In its reluctant permission the Council stated it reserved future judgement “in re-gard to all nature or nudist films which might be presented to it”.
Months later two Kunz movies “Vacances Naturistes” (Vacations for Naturists) and “Naturists dans la Neige” (Naturists in the Snow), were banned. 2 Movie Censorship: A Swiss Comparison The book Sun sea and naked people chronicles Werner’s films and the saga of censorship.
