Skinny dipper flag

The skinny dipper flag was designed in 1954 by couple and their daughter who previously were member at Willamettans Family Nudist Resort in Oregon but moved to Alaska. 1The story of the “Skinny Dipper” flag The intention of the flag is to fly it to inform others that they are entering an area where there could be social nudity. 2Skinny Dipper Flag A group of Alaskan naturists nAKed Friends promotes the use of the flag.

Development

Research was done on the colors and shapes of maritime signal flags. One suggestion considered was using  the existing “N”  flag (for nude), that was discarded because in maritime signal it reflects a negative.It was desired that the design be easy to see from a distance. The final design selected by combined the shape of the capital letter “N” with yellow, for the sun and warmth above, and blue, for the sky or water below.3The story of the “Skinny Dipper” flag The colors of the flag are similar to the naturist symbol colors.

Some of the first names considered for the flag were the “Body Positive” and the “Nude Haven”. But “Skinny-dipping” was decided  to communicate the meaning and intention of the flag.4The story of the “Skinny Dipper” flag
