Biography
Stephen Gough, also known as the Naked Rambler, is a British former Royal Marine who has been arrested and imprisoned numerous times for walking naked in public. Gough was born in Southampton, England in 1959. He served in the Royal Marines for 12 years.
Beliefs
Gough is a self-described nudist and naturist who believes that there is nothing wrong with being naked in public. He has said that he walks naked as a way of protesting against what he sees as the sexualization of the human body.
Gough has been walking naked in public since 2003, when he walked from Land’s End to John o’ Groats. He was been joined on his naked ramblings by several people including his partner. Gough has since been arrested and imprisoned on numerous occasions, for a total of over seven years. He has also been the subject of several court cases, including a case at the European Court of Human Rights.
