Francis Gilmere a self described longtime nudist despite being rejected from membership in white only nudist clubs. He stated he was a nudist of 18 years at the time of interview in the November 21 1968 issue of Jet magazine 1Jet magazine November 21 1968 Gilmere describes his plans for a nudist club in Georgia where;
“…naked black men and naked black women and naked white men and naked white women will have a place in the state of Georgia where they can come together freely and share the delights of of country club living nudist style”
Gilmere planned a country club then later a complete community where nudity would be accepted as normal and clothing optional. He reported to Jet that he had 200 white members committed to membership in the club which was planned to be built in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountain just south of the North Carolina border.
Gilmere reportedly had a mixed career in social work, and land development. He advertised the prospective club in Atlanta area newspapers and on radio stations. The Tahitian Nudist Country Club Resort was expected to to operational in the spring of 1969.
