Anarchist Naturists practice Anarcho-Naturism or anarchist naturism a combination of anarchist and naturist philosophies.
History
In the 1920’s anarcho-naturism developed in Spain, Britain, France and Switzerland. Anarchist naturists advocated for social nudity, open sexual relationships and the abolition of the state. They promoted vegetarianism/veganism, individualism, feminism and socialism. Modern day anarchist naturists also promote a rejection of the artificiality of modern industrial society in preference for a stateless ecologically minded society.
Origins
Early anarchist naturists were influenced by the thought of Henry David Thoreau particular his biographical fiction work Walden, 1Anarcho-naturism Wikipedia They saw the anarchist naturist movement as call to get back to nature and a rejection of the social trapping of modern industrialization.
“I find great pleasure in being naked in the woods, bathed in light and air, two natural elements we cannot do without. By shunning the humble garment of an exploited person, (garments which, in my opinion, are the result of all the laws devised to make our lives bitter), we feel there no others left but just the natural laws. Clothes mean slavery for some and tyranny for others. Only the naked man who rebels against all norms, stands for anarchism, devoid of the prejudices of outfit imposed by our money-oriented society.” 2 Anarchism – Nudism, Naturism
In Switzerland an anarchist physician Henry Oedenkoven co-founded a naturist community Monte Verita in Asconda, Switzerland. 3 The nudists, doctors, and true believers who built vegetarianism With the development of national and international naturist organizations, the link between naturist ethic and anarchist philosophy diminished. The naturist and libertine movements like anarcho-naturism diverged in their practice and philosophy of everyday life. 4 Anarchism – Nudism, Naturism
