Based on discovered letters Charles Edward Gordon Crawford is believed to be cofounder of the world’s earliest naturist club as defined by western society. It was established in British India in 1891 in Thane. Crawford, a widower served as a district governor and judge in the Mumbai Civil Service Center in Thana . The club, The Fellowship of the Naked Trust (FNT) had four members including Crawford and co founder Edward Carpenter. Members of the club were required to be completely naked with the exception of some jewelry like rings and items like glasses and false teeth.
