Charles Edward Gordon Crawford

Based on discovered letters Charles Edward Gordon Crawford is believed to be cofounder of  the world’s  earliest naturist club as defined by western society. It  was established in British India in 1891 in Thane. Crawford, a widower served as a district governor and judge in the Mumbai Civil Service Center in Thana . The only evidence of the club exists in a few letters he sent to friends. 1World’s first-ever nudist colony discovered near Mumbai

The club, The Fellowship of the Naked Trust (FNT) had four members including Crawford and co founder Edward Carpenter. Members of the club were required to be  completely naked with the exception of some jewelry like rings and items like glasses and false teeth. The club was apparently closed in 1892 when Crawford remarried.2World’s first nudist colony was in Thane (and this man proved it)
