Some naturists in the United States go naturist hiking on public (Federal) lands in U.S. The beaches(like Gunnison Beach in Sandy Hook New Jersey, National Forest Parks, and hiking trails don’t actively prohibit nudity. While there are technically no Federal laws against nudity. Some local areas with Federal lands enforce or ask federal officials to enforce local ordinances prohibiting nudity. Code of Federal Regulations that covers “Resource Protection, Public Use and Recreation,” Section 2.34, states that:
A person commits disorderly conduct when, with intent to cause public alarm, nuisance [emphasis added], jeopardy or violence, or knowingly or recklessly creating a risk thereof… Uses language, an utterance, or gesture, or engages in a display or act that is obscene, physically threatening or menacing… [Or] Creates or maintains a hazardous or physically offensive condition.
Where are these places?
Nudity is not explicitly prohibited on Bureau of Land Management lands. However, there are some considerations to make. If it is federal lands, meaning managed by the federal government the usually it is available. It is wise to use out of the way areas that are not highly trafficked and check in with ranger.
